I was Director of Photography on this music video for Volcano Choir, a collaboration between Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and members of Collections of Colonies of Bees. It promoted their second album, Repave. Our creative goal was to connect the fluid motions of the dancers and the water. It was shot primarily on a RED Epic camera with Zeiss CP lenses. We filmed the dancing portion inside RDI Stages in Milwaukee, featuring dancers from the Milwaukee Ballet. We captured the dancers against a white cyc and reverse luma keyed them, using the waves of Lake Michigan as an “inverted background” element.
