Music Video - “Tiderays”

I was Director of Photography on this music video for Volcano Choir, a collaboration between Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and members of Collections of Colonies of Bees. “Tiderays” was the first single to promote their second album, Repave. We were given a lot of creative freedom and found a way to capitalize on the resources available to us in Milwaukee.
Our creative goal was to connect the fluid motions of the dancers and the water. It was shot primarily on a RED Epic camera with Zeiss CP lenses. We filmed the Milwaukee Ballet dancers inside RDI Stages. We used their white cyc and reverse luma keyed the dancers, replacing them with the waves of Lake Michigan as an inverted background element.
